Research and technological developmentTechnical CenterA Place where Innovations are BornThe Technical Center plays a pivotal role in the Suminoe Textile Group’s research and technologicaldevelopment. The center is located in the Yamato Basin in Nara Prefecture in proximity to Horyuji Temple,which is listed as a World Cultural Heritage Site by UNESCO. In this quiet environment, our developmentactivities are carried out mainly by young technological staff, in order to bring about technological innovations.The Technical Center conducts development activities under the theme of“KKR+A,”or Kenko (Health), Kankyo(Environment), Recycle and Amenity. This resulted inthe publication of ISO 17299-5in April 2014. The quality ofSuminoe Textile’s products isenhanced by the high-levelevaluation techniques we havedeveloped over the last 20 years.Winning the Industrial Technology Awardfor development of the PH Film?sign/warning films used on the floors of train carsIn May 2018, Suminoe Textile engineers received the IndustrialTechnology Award from the Osaka Industrial Research Association,for development of the PH Film. As a resultof two-year tests conducted by actuallyapplying this product on the floors of trainvehicles, its durability was confirmed.The PH Film has been adopted in railcarsfor 800 commuter trains running in themetropolitan area in the Kanto region.11
