In December 2024, Suminoe Textile Co., Ltd. was renamed as
SUMINOE Co., Ltd.
Since its founding in the Meiji Period (1868-1912), our company
has constantly taken on challenges to produce new spaces.
To name a few, SUMINOE produced the first Western-style carpet
in Japan, eco-friendly recycled carpets, and interior products for
transport means such as automobiles and trains. We developed all
these products to realize our future vision.
To create brand new spaces, we have been working to go beyond
ourselves.
And now, taking advantage of our accumulated technologies, we
are expanding the range of our contribution.
Maintaining our enterprising spirit, we will take more flexible
approaches to realize our vision and go farther toward the future.

Developing SUMINOE into a Company Dedicated to the Creation of New Spaces

On December 2, 2024, the company changed its name from Suminoe Textile Co., Ltd. to SUMINOE Co., Ltd.
We will take on chal lenges to create new spaces while inheriting over-140-year traditions that originated in the Meiji Period.

Continuous Changes Throughout Our History

In 1980, that is about 40 years ago, when I joined the company, Japan's office culture was changing radically. That year is known as the initial year of office automation (OA) since many offices began introducing personal computers and printers around that time. Still another element that significantly changed the office environment was Japan's first carpet tiles, developed that year by our senior colleagues. Carpet tiles became popular all at once since they were easy to install in offices of various floor areas and shapes and were suitable for double floorings of OA offices.

Changes in Spaces Trigger Social Changes

Changes in the office environment have radically changed the way people work and spend their time. I believe that you know well the magnitude of the impact of the changes in working spaces since you have experienced social changes caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Changes in spaces change how you move, how you spend your days, and how comfortable you feel. The carpets we supplied to the Imperial Diet Building, which represented Japan's modernization, helped create a space for calm yet dynamic discussions. We also supplied Japan's first moquette seat covers for passenger railroad cars, which created beautiful and comfortable spaces inside passenger cars in the period when railway services became widespread. We are proud of these products.

To Create a New Culture of Spaces

Suminoe Textile Co., Ltd. has continued to develop various technologies and materials to change spaces. In 2024, on the 141st anniversary of its founding, the company changed its name to SUMINOE Co., Ltd.
New technologies developed by the company include advanced textile, air purification, light control, and photovoltaic cell technologies. We will maintain these technologies, along with our founding spirit, nourished at Suminoe, the birthplace of our company from where it embarked on an adventure to create new spaces. Taking advantage of these assets, we will take an even more flexible and extensive approach to create more comfortable spaces for all people. We have already started a new project by inquiring of ourselves what future spaces should be like. We are determined to change our spaces, lifestyles, and cultures. On the beginning of a new voyage on the 141st anniversary of SUMINOE, I sincerely hope that you will place expectations on our company and observe it both rigorously and generously.
