Offering Amenity Spaces and Enriched Lifestyles
The Suminoe Textile Group is a textile manufacturer that was founded in 1883. For more than 130 years since its foundation, we have endeavored to produce and market even better products, by constantly identifying social needs and improving our technologies accordingly, with the aim of offering people amenity spaces and enriched lifestyles.
Under its fundamental development philosophy “KKR+A (Kenko [Health], Kankyo [Environment], Recycle and Amenity),” the Suminoe Textile Group has strived to develop its one-of-a-kind products, while maintaining a consistent attitude of manufacturing products that are friendly to both people and the environment. Principal among these is the ECOS® series of recycled carpet tiles produced under a “horizontal recycling” system, which has achieved a post-consumption recycled material usage rate that is among the highest in the world. Our efforts to sell such environmentally friendly products indicate our intention to become a manufacturer that contributes to the realization of a sustainable society.
In recent years, the Suminoe Textile Group has also been pursuing the development of smart textiles toward the creation of new value brought about by the Internet of Things (IoT), as well as expanding new business domains, including non-textile products.
The Suminoe Textile Group started when our founder opened a small factory in his home during the Meiji period (1868‒1912). We have broadened the scale of our operations, now having grown into an entity that has 13 affiliated companies in Japan and 13 business sites overseas. Currently, the number of overseas employees account for about half the total of the entire Group. As a global manufacturer with many employees, we consider that building an organization with a culture of openness is one of the most important tasks to be accomplished, in order to ensure that our diverse workforce continues to enjoy working, benefiting from their diversity. To this end, we are committed to establishing a system that allows management executives and employees to work together to create such a company organization.
While broadening our scope of operations, we have also continued the original business of Suminoe Textile—manufacturing arts and crafts textiles, including hand-woven carpets. We believe that preserving and refining these traditional techniques for hand-weaving, which constitutes a historical industry of Japan, is part of the mission and social contribution that we must make and fulfill, as a manufacturer that takes pride in its history of more than 130 years.
Our hope is to continue to be an enterprise that will offer amenity spaces and enriched lifestyles to people over the next 100 years. We understand that the amenities and lifestyles that people seek will change in accordance with the times. Nevertheless, to pursue and realize these changing amenities and lifestyles, the Suminoe Textile Group will continue to take on its own challenges, as a pioneering manufacturer in the Japanese interiors industry.
